Gingivitis and Oral Health

Gingivitis and Early Gum Disease

The bacteria in plaque react with the foods we eat to produce the acids that lead to gum disease, which in its early state, is called gingivitis.

Gingivitis can affect you at any age. Approximately three out of four adults over the age of 35 have gum disease now or have had it in the past. Fortunately, with regular dental visits and proper daily oral care, gingivitis can be prevented or reversed.

Left untreated, gingivitis may progress to a more severe form of gum disease. Improving your oral care at home with CloSYS may lessen your chances of developing gingivitis, as it kills germs and freshens up your breath.

Gingivitis and Heart Disease

There is a close association between gum disease and heart disease. It is believed that gum disease is inflammatory and causes the release of pro-inflammatory chemicals into the bloodstream, which may be linked to heart disease.
